Star woke up in the Haunted Mansion the day after s2e1. It started off as a surreal experience, trapped in a house with a bunch of strangers, and she didn't take the threat of murder seriously until... murders happened. And they kept happening. The people she was starting to really care about were dying all around her, and she and the others were forced to send the culprits to their deaths via violent and often humiliating execution. She ended up being accused of murdering Wander and Sylvia, two people (well, aliens) she felt especially close to, and even though she was cleared of suspicion, she had a really hard time looking at her accusers the same way again.
She tried to use her magic. She tried to dip down, the way her mother taught her right before she ended up in the death house. She even managed to get her hands on a wand charger and made a makeshift wand! But when she could use magic, it didn't work like she wanted it to. This. unfortunately, became her downfall.
She came across two of her friends, Tip and Kiara, having an argument that escalated into a fight, and of course a lioness had much more of an advantage against a little girl. Upon witnessing Tip's death, Star freaked, and her makeshift wand went off, killing Kiara in a single blow. And she panicked. She knew exactly what this meant and she panicked. Star tried to cast a spell to heal Kiara, to "fix this", but with the fake wand being as unstable as it was, fixed it in a way that made it even worse: it turned Kiara's corpse into a perfectly preserved lion skin rug. With no way to bring the dead back to life, Star frantically tried to hide the evidence, but it was no use: the next morning, the bodies were discovered, and everyone gathered for the trial.
She stood among the people she thought of as friends and family (and Fiddleford) as they discussed the gruesome murders and the crime scenes. The things that she caused. It felt like hours before she finally broke down and admitted everything. She wasn't met with scorn or hatred though: this place had brought them all closer together under its terrible circumstances, and nobody wanted to lose anyone else. There was hope, though: they had been contacted by a mysterious figure named Walt who had told them that their dead friends weren't really dead, just trapped by the masterminds behind all this, and there was a chance they could escape and rescue the prisoners. Unfortunately for Star, escape was no longer an option, but with the knowledge that she could be rescued, she told her remaining friends (and Fiddleford) not to give up, and that she'd meet up with them again soon.
She was executed. It wasn't pretty. Then she ended up in the box: an endless black void where everyone who had died during their stay in the Haunted Mansion was trapped. She was reunited with her lost friends, and she eventually met Hades, the asshole who kept them locked in there. She spent the next few months trying to attack him every time he showed his ugly face in there, but to no avail. She and Wander devised an elaborate pirate LARP to pass the time and try to make things easier on the next group of unfortunate souls who got kidnapped for another blood ritual. As more and more people started appearing in the box, she was starting to lose hope that they would ever get out of there. It got worse as the third and final round of sacrifices began, and the prisoners were given a means of watching the entire thing. Marco and Lekmet were among the new group, and she was powerless to help them. Marco ended up meeting a gruesome end at the hands of the Friends on the Other Side, and even though that meant he went to the Box like all the others, the reunion was bittersweet because of the circumstances.
Everything finally came to a head when the survivors finally reunited with the prisoners. They all banded together under the leadership of Rod, Ghostave, Hades (UGH), and Mickey Mouse in order to set in motion a way to defeat the Friends for good. Except Hades played everyone for a fool and the plan actually released the Friends, nearly wiping out the entire universe as a result. Lots of people died, many more were injured, and everyone was traumatized, but in the end they miraculously beat back the Friends and Star herself vaporized Hades after everyone gave him a well-deserved beating.
It was finally over, and Star got to go home again. She had missed a lot- nearly a year of her life, but she had a vague idea of what she missed thanks to Marco. Unfortunately, she ended up getting home just in time for the events that take place in The Battle For Mewni. When that was finally over, she had a newly repaired wand, and a chance to tell everyone about what happened while she was away (namely, that Lekmet was a hero who deserved to be remembered forever).
